Big race going big with technology

October 6th, 2008 Posted in Communications, Marketing, Online, Social media, Uncategorized, Web

I’ve been fascinated by the growing use of technology for communications in this presidential election. I just came across a story in MacWorld that Barack Obama’s campaign has launched an application specifically for iPhone users to help supporters of the candidate communicate, connect with others and get involved, stay up to date on breaking issues etc. Whether or not you agree with or support Obama’s candidacy, it seems that his campaign continues to innovate and break new ground in the use of technology to communicate with, reach and engage people. Seems like there are lessons here for all of us interesting in creating and keeping connections. Thoughts?

Obama’s campaign is using so many technology applications & I’m pretty sure that’s going to show up in voting results.

I’ve never seen anyone do such an extensive and market-oriented web-based campaign - politics or otherwise. The opportunities provided by Facebook, text messaging and this iPhone app bring big campaigns (like any national level campaign) to a more personal level in new ways that we haven’t seen in a very long time. I think that this campaign will provide other candidates and - what’s more - companies and marketing professionals with a best practice approach to utilizing social media.
